These came out of further studies in the AI Tree area, combined with dot screens. One of the directions evolved into a grid of lozenge shapes, imperfect and textural. These lost any tree associations, but had a sequenced, analogue quality, which seemed to have a resonance with music, and particularly the misapplication of the Roland 303 bass emulator to Acid House, and subsequent related musical genres. The 303 was a pretty insipid bass substitute (although it didn’t hurt the groove of ‘Rip it Up’ by Orange Juice), but when pushed to extreme settings it created a new analogue squelchy sound that became the backbone of Acid. This is a kind of visual equivalent – the forms are sequenced, but distorted and ragged. The use of fluo orange is also an intentional call back to the visual language of Acid House. Print size is 50 x 50cm, but the printed area is circa 29 x 29cm. These will be the only versions of this print produced.
